JG MMA Academy offered programs

Submission Grappling

Submission grappling, also know as submission fighting and No Gi Jiu Jitsu, is a form of martial arts training involving clinch and  ground fighting in an effort to submit your opponent.  The sport of submission grappling is a compilation of wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Sambo. Our submission grappling program is mainly based on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with takedowns influenced by freestyle wrestling. It is no secret that in order to succeed in MMA competitions, one must learn the ground game of submission grappling. Fighters that prefer to standup are forced to learn grappling so they can at least defend against the takedowns and submission attempts. Submission grappling tactics and strategies are used by top fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Positions and maneuvers that would be advantageous in a real fight (such as passing the guard or achieving the mount position) are taught and instructed in our submission grappling classes. Submission grappling does not involve hitting or striking and is safe for all age groups for men and women alike.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a form of self-defense that takes place almost entirely on the ground. Students use grappling moves to apply submission holds such as chokes, arm bars, shoulder locks and knee bars using the weight of their entire body to press against these key joints.  Students caught in a submission acknowledge defeat simply by tapping out & starting over.
Part of the appeal of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is that smaller men and women can triumph over larger opponents not skilled in the art. Sheer strength and conditioning will not get you far in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, instead you must learn an array of attacks and counters that number in the thousands.
The more you learn the more you will realize that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more like a game of chess, with each opponent thinking of moves 3-5 steps ahead of where they currently are. We offer a Fundamental class for all new students to begin their training with us.  A Gi is required for our students to particiapate in our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes and all of students progress through the belt system during their time training with us.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai, otherwise known as Thai boxing, is considered by many to be the most effective form of stand-up fighting there is. The official sport of Thailand, Muay Thai has been around for centuries. Muay Thai Kickboxing is referred to as "The Art of Eight Limbs"  as the hands, elbows, knees and feet are used extensively in this martial art. Muay Thai has no formal belt system. Students do not work for a higher belt or practice kata. Instead they work to increase effectiveness in combat. It is the striking art of choice for Mixed Martial Arts fighters such as those who compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The art can easily be taken for its cardiovascular and fitness benefits, but none can deny its effectiveness in the ring. Our hybrid system of Muay Thai also includes sweeps, throws, submission set-ups, wrestling (clinch) drills, and many of the spinning strikes included in flashier styles. Our system of Muay Thai is geared for fighting, either in a ring, cage, or on the street. Stop by, glove up, and try it for yourself. You will be in better shape and fighting condition in no time.
